Homes for sale in Drakesboro, Kentucky
Drakesboro is a small town in the eastern part of Muhlenberg County, a few miles from the Green River and the ground where the coal town of Paradise once stood. A few hundred people live here. It's quiet, it's affordable, and it's about 15 minutes from Central City's services and the parkway.
What makes Drakesboro special
This is the heart of the country John Prine wrote about. Paradise itself is gone — the mines and the power plant took it — but the Green River is still there, and the John Prine Memorial Park at Rochester Dam is a short drive. Merle Travis, whose thumbpicking guitar style spread across country music, grew up in Rosewood, just outside Drakesboro.
Drakesboro has its own small-town rhythm: a couple of churches, a park, a school history that runs deep, and neighbors who've known each other for generations. Fishing and hunting are close. The Green River and its bottomland are part of daily life.
For buyers, the draw is simple: land and houses cost less here than almost anywhere else in the county, and Central City is close enough that you still have groceries, the hospital in Greenville, and the parkway within reach.

The houses in Drakesboro
Mostly older homes — many built during the coal years — plus mobile and manufactured homes, and rural properties on acreage. Well and septic are common outside the town center. This is fixer-upper and first-home territory, and it's also where investors look for rentals.
What Baylee looks for here
- Baylee flipped houses before she sold them, and Drakesboro is exactly the kind of place where that matters. She'll tell you which older homes are worth the work and which ones are money pits.
- She looks at foundations and settling, roof condition, wiring type, and whether a home has been sitting empty and for how long.
- For manufactured homes: the year, the foundation and tie-downs, and whether it's titled as real property all affect financing. Ask before you fall for it.
Baylee's insight comes from construction and renovation experience, not a licensed inspection. Always hire an independent, licensed Kentucky home inspector before closing.
