Madisonville is the Hopkins County seat and the commercial hub of the western coalfield, with about 19,500 people and a downtown that has kept most of its historic storefronts occupied. Madisonville Community College, with a Murray State partnership for four-year degrees, is the other anchor. Berry Global and other manufacturers round out the job base.
The Glema Mahr Center for the Arts, a 1,000-seat theater, brings in touring shows. Downtown has upscale dining and shopping for a town this size, and Land Between the Lakes is about an hour west.
